Shrutinandan started in 1993 with a mission to bring to the fundamentals of Indian vocal music to those who would benefit most from classical music training – the young. Based in Calcutta, India, it caters to the needs of students the world over, with in-premises mentoring as well as distance learning through audio and video materials. It also offers advanced courses and continuing education courses for select adult students and professional singers under the tutelage of its founder. Most Gurus and Classical Institutes in India only train young adults. Shrutinandan's founder Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty keenly felt a gap in the education of musically talented children. Today, Shrutinandan is proud to offer a holistic approach to the teaching of music to young people, with a unique process that includes guidance on public performance, acoustics and sound recording. Believing that soul-stirring music can only emerge from a sound body, we also track the physical health of our students through the services of consulting physicians and specialists.
Importantly, Shrutinandan believes that music is neither sung nor heard in a vacuum. Shrutinandan offers music appreciation courses to the public in order to create discerning listeners and spread awareness of the subtleties of the art. In keeping with our holistic approach, we try (where possible) to bring families of students into these appreciation courses, so that instead of confining the musical experience to the classroom and practice sessions alone, our students get a thriving musical environment at home. Shrutinandan is a non-profit society under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act 1961. We welcome contributions from patrons of the arts; please see Giving to Shrutinandan for details. |
