People
often regret their limitation of understanding
classical music and form their opinions
about music and musicians influenced by
critical reviews published in newspapers
and periodicals.
As no system or institution has been evolved
so far for proper appreciation of music
only a handful of musicians and genre remain
in the forefront, courtesy publicity. As
a result classical music is getting poorer,
genres like Dhrupad and Dhamar
are almost extinct these days.
No art can flourish without sagacious understanding
of its patrons and appreciation by audience.
Artistes at times play to the gallery for
earning cheap popularity that hardly does
justice as far as vastness and depth of
Indian classical music is concerned.
We here at Shrutinandan have designed a
Music Appreciation Course
under the direct supervision and guidance
of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
This appreciation course is for the guardians
of the students at Shrutinandan as well,
that enables them to groom their wards in
a better way.
Each student is taught on the basics of
Indian music and musical accompaniment (Harmonium,
Tanpura and Tabla) in this course.
Students of Music Appreciation classes
are selected through Audition Tests.
A special Medal of citation in the name
of Pandit Vijay Kumar Kichlu, famous Indian
classical vocalist and former Executive
Director of ITC Sangeet Research Academy,
Kolkata, is conferred on the best student
of the course.
