  Grade 1 - "Aarohee - I & II"

Young Achievers' Music Enlightenment Training Course
(Training on the basics of music, to be completed maximum in 5 years)

Here the students -

» Will know the Keys of a Harmonium and understand Lower, Middle and Upper Octave and will start singing them from their respective pitches identified by Shrutinandan.

» Will sing middle octave pure notes (Swaras) SA, RE, GA, MA, PA, DHA, NI, SA tunefully, and will also sing 5 (five) flat and sharp notes (Komal & Tibra Swaras) with a Tanpura. Gradually, they should be able to sing some small interesting patterns of Swaras without the help of a Harmonium or any other Keyboard instrument.

» Will sing with acoustic or electronic Tanpura all the above-mentioned twelve notes for a longer time (16 secs.) with open voice in 5 vowels (“AA”, “E”, “EE”, “O”, “OO”) and with “Ohm-Kaar” in Shrutinandan process.

» Will practice how to come down with open voice at least up to lower octave “MA” and go up to upper octave “MA” and will sing NI, DHA, PA of lower octave and RE, GA, MA of upper octave sustaining up to 8 secs. with non-stop Tanpura playing.

» Will play “Tanpura” correctly sitting in correct posture in first 3 years and can play Tanpura on its correct position with correct fingering and rhythm in shrutinandan process in another 2 years’ time (applicable for the students above 8 years age).

» Will recognize some basic syllables of Tabla-Bayan and Pakhwaj as will be specified and instructed by Shrutinandan.

» Will read correctly the following Talas with correct Tali (claps), Khali (soundless posture of hands and fingers) and intermediate beats (matras) in shrutinandan process (Dadra / Keherwa / Teorha / Rupak / Jhanptal / Choutal / Ektal / Teental).

» Will sing tunefully the basic 10 Scales of Hindustani Music and some important Scales of Karnatic Music.

» Will write all Swaras (the musical notes) in Shorthand process of Shrutinandan.

» Will write the Hindi-songs in Hindi script, Bengali songs in Bengali script and read the lyric with correct pronunciation and enunciation first and then sing them keeping the Tali /Khali in hands in Shrutinandan process.

» Will sing non-stop the small combinations of Swaras (musical notes), prescribed or self-made, in Sargam, “AA-kar” and with any word of any particular song (first in “BarabarLaya i.e. in keeping with the tempo of the theka and next in “Dwigun” i.e. in double tempo) one after another keeping Tali/Khali in hands in Shrutinandan process.

» Will sing some basic designs of notes in different rhythmic patterns (with the help of “Quida” of Tabla).

» Will sing and chant correctly the Mantras of Guru / Father (Baba) and Mother (Maa).

» Will sing the Sanskrit Prayer song (Ganesh Vandana).

» Will understand the meanings of all songs learnt.

» Will answer to the questions of selected chapters of Shrutinandan book.

» Will practise writing one or two lines of any song, taught by Shrutinandan, correctly with the detailed swaras and tala-laya pictures in “Geetalekha” exercise book everyday from the 3rd year.

» Will sing the following songs as taught by Shrutinandan :

Advice:

All the students of AROHEE group must practice two hours as directed by the instructor and will listen to the prescribed list of songs in Shrutinandan process everyday.

For singing lower octave swaras, students must rise early in the morning as instructed.

On holidays – 4 hours practice and listening in Shrutinandan process.

Must have dinner before / latest 8 pm. Late at night they can have biscuits, milk and sweets but no cooked food.

Must not have too much cold or hot drinks or food.

Must have at least 4 liters of water a day to maintain good health.

Must have less oily food and minimum intake of fried and fast food.

Must have good and positive attitude and believe that they can win.

Must develop attitude of doing all kinds of household works to help their parents, and also be cooperative with everyone around themselves in life.

Must learn correct process of Pranayam (Anulom-Vilom, Kapalbhati etc.) and must practice it for 15 minutes daily to have more oxygen and better health without medication.

Must talk very less and very soft to maintain good musical voice all through the life.

Must assess total activities of the day themselves before going to bed to become a much better human being.
