| Indian
classical music, as coined by Pandit Ajoy
Chakrabarty as Indian Raga Music, is not only
about mastering vocal techniques and producing
exact notes in tune; it has to do with Taal
(beats) and Laya (tempo) at the same
time. Accompanying instruments such as Tablaa,
Harmonium and Tanpura should go along in unison.
But even these are not enough.
Indian classical music is a philosophy.
One has to go beyond forms and structures
to get to the core of it.
Only a dedicated and honest guru
can take an obedient, hard-working and dedicated
student up to that summit. Guru Pandit Ajoy
Chakrabarty, after years of experience in
the teaching-learning method of Indian classical
music in ITC SRA is here at 'Shrutinandan'
to infuse the very philosophy in the deep
psyche of the learners.
The 'Shrutinandan' methodology of learning
is a research-based technique that combines
heritage and technology, bridges brain with
heart.
Traditionally Indian raga music was taught
by the gurus to their shisyas
and the shisyas had to stay at
the gurus’ place right from
childhood. They had to live an ashram-life
under the gurus’ supervision
leaving their parents behind. It was almost
a religious teaching methodology by all
means.
Times have changed. Life hardly gives us
the chances as it used to in earlier days,
and hence Indian classical musical scenario
is in a dilemma as far as transferring of
the treasures to newer generation is concerned.
This is why 'Shrutinandan' is here; with
an aim to provide the much needed space
for coming generations to be and 'in' the
rich heritage of Indian classical music.
