Gayaki |
|
| |
Gayaki
means style of singing. The most unique and
distinctive character of vocal music is gayaki.
It differs from Gayak to Gayak (singer). Gift
of God, proper training from an early age,
huge singing experience, academic and other
education, exposure to different fields, wide
traveling and over and above faith in the
creator of the universe make a singer unique
because the detailed movement of gayaki is
conceived from the nature and its huge and
variegated movements. So the gayaki of swaras
and lyrics brings different shades and colours
depending on the above mentioned qualities
and attributes that differ from musician to
musician because vocalists can develop an
inner vision of their own to give shape to
thoughts through their musical presentations. |

Gharana |
|
| |
Gharana
means school of music representing a specific
musical lineage or tradition for consecutive
three generations. Each Gharana is famous
for certain individualistic style of rendering.
Very well accepted unique style of performance
of one or two particular classical musician/s
establishes the style and in the name of their
birth place the name of the Gharana becomes
popular. As the name of the Gharana comes
into existence because of an individual artiste
and his contribution, his/her particular style
of singing is considered more important than
the Gharana. Because of individualistic contribution
we get completely different shades in the
Gayaki (style of singing) even in the same
Gharana. Some important Gharanas are Gwalior,
Kirana, Agra, Patiala, Delhi, Rampur, Jaipur,
Myhar, Lucknow, Banaras etc. This Gharana
concept does not exist in Carnatic music. |
